I recently completed my first two-year term as State Senator for District 18, representing all of Yankton County and the Bethel and Star townships in Clay County. In Pierre, I served on the Transportation, Education, and Local Government Committees.
Last summer, I served on the Community Support Providers Study and the Medical Marijuana Oversight Committee, and I will continue serving on both committees again this summer.
At home, my husband David and I recently celebrated 32 years of marriage. We farm north of Yankton, where we raised our three children—Mary, Beatrice, and Fredrick. I bring 20 years of experience as an educator and administrator across public, private, and homeschool settings.
I was appointed by the Yankton County Commission to serve on the Planning and Zoning Board, where I’ve also contributed to the Solar and Wind Task Forces. I am the treasurer of the Yankton County Sharpshooters, enjoying the .22 benchrest league in the summer.
Why am I running for re-election? Two years ago, this campaign began as an unknown challenger taking on a long-time insider with deep ties to established interests—and delivered a historic victory. That victory was part of a broader movement that sent a clear message: government should answer to the people—not special interests or the lobbyists with deep pockets.
Over the past two legislative sessions, new leadership in Pierre has delivered more accountability, more transparency, and—most importantly—made sure the people have a voice and a seat at the table.
Let’s keep moving forward, and not looking back, making sure your voice is heard in Pierre. Your vote on Tuesday, June 2, is essential. With your support, our values will be defended, your concerns will be heard, and the quality of life we enjoy today will be protected for future generations.
